Testing Results The following table provides the pass/fail results. Tests and determinations are available for reference in ASCII format for immediate viewing. | Test | Comment | Result | | Install Distribution | Install each Linux distribution while connected to the KVM | PASSED | | PC Power Cycle | Verify the KVM is power state independent of the attached computers | PASSED | | Hot Key Switching | Verify the KVM responds to Linux Keyboard commands | PASSED | | Auto Switching | Verify the KVM will automatically cycle through the attached computers | PASSED | | Mouse click and drag | Verify the mouse functions after switching between various computers | PASSED | | Display Resolution | Verify the X Server of the distribution functions after switching between various computers | PASSED | | Monitor Power Cycle | Verify the monitor powers back up and all attached computers have no ill effects | PASSED | | Idle Time | Verify the KVM recovers from idle periods where power save, screen saver and monitor power saving states change | PASSED | | Multiple OS | Verify switching between computers has no ill effects when at least one is running Windows | PASSED | | Multi Head | Verify switching through the attached units alternating between heads and then switches both heads to the same unit | NA | | Sound Connect | Verify audio functions while playing sound files/CDs and switching between units | NA | Notes and Observations: Installation of all but one of the Linux distributions was fairly straight forward. The Turbo Linux v10 install will only work in text mode, as the graphical installer will not detect the mouse, when using the composite USB adapter. This is most likely due to limitations of the onboard USB adapters and/or root hub on the PC used for testing and Avocents use of a single composite USB interface for both keyboard and mouse. This is likely to be a common problem for end customers using server or desktop class machines without full USB 2.0 Composite support. Once the install was complete and X configuration was manually edited with the proper mouse settings, it worked fine.
